WBSC 2026 AGM - Note of Meeting Part 1

To all Members.

Attached for your information is a Note from the Club's AGM, held last week.

WBSC: ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING - 21 MAY 2026

Members in attendance: Mark Davies, Jim Tunley, Kev Jones, Darren Lee, Hannah Clarke, Jo Koscinska, Simon Koscinski, Richard Ackerley, Kate Ackerley, John Evans, Rob Evans.

* Apologies: Jonathan Davies, Lee Harrison, Tom Trueman.

1. Note of the AGM held on 29th May 2025 . - Agreed as a correct record.

2. Matters arising.

* Suggested Racketball taster had still not taken place; with its increased popularity, agreed we should try again. ACTION
* A concern that CCTV at the front area of the Club, overlooking the car park should be reinstated to increase security. ACTION
* It was agreed that every effort should be made to hold a Fast & Furious Christmas Competition this year, with emphasis on it as a social event.

3. Chairman’s Report .

* Mark’s report noted the Club’s continued sound financial footing with an increase in memberships, notably from Ladies and seemingly with greater social play.

* The Ladies Squash sessions continue doing well, attracting players at all levels of ability.

* Our strong social media and website arrangements help attract new members, though it was acknowledged exploring other options may attract new juniors in particular. A discussion on the Club’s situation with junior development identified an approach which has involved local (to the Club) Primary Schools, but only with limited success. Currently, we have three beginners attending the Monday Coaching session - Years 5/6 pupils, plus four older players attending a second Monday session - the second group of players are at A Level stage in their studies and may, of course, soon be off from the area to University or other.

There were questions about the accountability of Squash Wales (our National Governing Body) in this area of grass roots junior development and whether they had produced a blueprint nationally (or for North Wales) that may assist Clubs in attracting juniors to squash. We will write to SW (Tom Rosser) seeking clarity. ACTION

* Also, a suggestion there may be benefit in reaching out to other similar Clubs, to consider their approach to working with juniors and understanding what works; Squash Wales would be asked for successful examples. ACTION

* The Club continues to host the Squash Wales Academy (North) squad of players from across the region; under Mike Harris, they have had considerable success with some of these juniors, as follows:-

* Ethan Willis - current Under 17s Welsh Champion

* Salah Farrag - current Under 15s Welsh Champion

* Anna Fogerty - a future Champion !

* Recent refurbishment of both the Ladies and Men’s areas had been well received; this week, however, there had been serious issues with flooding across the Men’s shower / toilet area. Both Gareth Lloyd and the Cricket Club were aware of the situation. There was also some snagging work required e.g. toilet door not locking, towel hooks required, sanitary facilities reinstated, etc.

At the earliest opportunity, there’s an intention to tidy up the two changing rooms and redecorate. ACTION

In the 2025-26 Season our Teams had a middling time, as follows:

* NWCSL Firsts (Rob) - despite availability throughout described as sketchy, there had been some good matches and the Team completed their fixtures in mid-table. It’s hoped the Team may be strengthened in September.

* NWCSL Seconds (Richard) - a good and settled Team this year, finishing in 6th place. Twelve players were used throughout in what was described a good season; Home matches were shared with the Team from Brookside but, despite the later finishes, that was not a problem.

* North Wales (Tom) - the Winter season was described as challenging, mainly due to a shortage of players and fielding an inconsistent Team; we finished second from bottom - for the Spring season, a significant turnaround with a stronger and reliable player squad, in particular playing at Number 1. A major highlight this season was the inclusion of junior, Anna Fogerty who played four matches at the end of the season, winning one match away from home - a fantastic achievement by Anna and, with it, a real positive for the future of WBSC. We finished 3rd in the Spring League.

* Thinking ahead to the 2026-27 season, Hannah suggested we consider new Team shirts and, with Kate, would explore the possibility of a new Club’ sponsor. ACTION

* We took the opportunity to reflect on the outstanding achievement this season of Jonathan Davies (JD) a double British Champion in Racketball. JD has won many different titles in both squash and racketball over the years but all may have been eclipsed by his winning both the British Closed and Open events - fantastic.

* Mark concluded by thanking Jim (Secretary) and Kev (Treasurer) for their, often unseen, work throughout the year.

4. Financial Report - Kev circulated copies of his Report which again highlighted the Club’s sound financial footing. Approved

* Following discussion, the recommendation to the AGM: Member Subscriptions and Light Card Fees - no increases across the board in 2026-27 , this came with the proviso that any increase in the Light Card fee may be approved by the Committee during the year, if that was felt necessary - Approved .
